ABOUT PILLAR

PILLAR stands for Protecting Individual Life, Liberty, And Rights

PILLAR is a civil liberties advocacy group that exists to ensure that every New Zealander can stand free. We defend the pillars of democracy—freedom of speech, conscience, thought, inquiry, religion, assembly, and the right to privacy—through courtroom action, legislative reform, public campaigns, and community mobilisation.

Our approach is strategic and unified. Stand: we fight in courts, tribunals, and councils to protect individual rights. Shift: we challenge bad laws and drive bold cultural and political campaigns. Speak: we influence the national conversation and reshape culture. Strengthen: we equip citizens and leaders to stand with courage and clarity for freedom.

We measure success by impact: legal victories that set precedents, campaigns that shift culture, citizens mobilised, and institutions held accountable.

We are leading a movement rooted in principle, powered by courage, and equipped for the long fight.
